How do you place the brush strokes?
Collect a lot of paint with a brush and first put it on the number that is written in the center. The center of the piece should be painted like this: initially paint a large layer of paint to cover the number and then brush the rest of the paint over the area of this piece. To paint by numbers it is not enough to pass the brush in only one direction. Very often it is necessary to take a lot of paint with a brush and make a movement of the hand back and forth, painting the area, because the canvas is embossed and to paint all these little micro dimples it is not enough to slide the brush in one direction. It is necessary to paint the entire area diligently, so hatching movements help to eliminate white spots when the painting dries, stains, different saturation of colors and so on.
How wet should I wet the brush?
You can wet the brush infrequently, usually before moving on to another color, because the more you wet the brush, the more liquid and transparent the layer of acrylic on the canvas is. Unfortunately, wet paint is not suitable in this case, unlike the same watercolor. The canvas repels moisture, the paint spreads, so it is recommended to wet the brush very rarely.
Which brushes are best suited for outlines and small fragments?
The brushes included in the set are sufficient. As a rule, the set contains one medium brush with a square tip and two thin, pointed brushes. The square tip is not always suitable for large areas, so you can use an additional brush of the same size with a round tip. When it comes to fine details, it is best to take a brush from the set and use it to draw the outline. It all depends on the fragment being painted: if it is a large piece, then the brush is larger, but with a pointed tip; if it is a large fragment, but which does not imply clear boundaries, a standard square brush can be used. And for small fragments of complex shapes, it is better to use a small or medium brush from the set.
Are colors always enough when working with a painting? What to do if the colors suddenly become insufficient?
Usually there are always enough colours, just a few more, a few less, but in general the colors offered are sufficient. Another point: what to do if suddenly the paint spoiled, dried up, ate the cat... There is always an analogue, there is a substitute, just go to the art store, buy a small jar of acrylics, it is usually inexpensive. If the paint has just dried, there is always a solvent for acrylic paints. Don't try to do it with acetone or paint remover: it won't help.
Is it necessary to cover such a painting with varnish?
It all depends on where it will be hung. If the picture will be placed in a place where the sun falls, it will burn out very quickly, so it is better to cover it with varnish. If, however, it is hung in the shade and the sunlight does not fall on it, the painting will retain its colors for a long time. Another frequently asked question is: "In my painting there is a lot of light yellow, for example. And when I paint very large areas, the numbers peek through the yellow color, what should I do? Besides trying to apply several layers of this yellow, there is also a great way to paint over the number plate. From the beginning you apply white paint, maybe even in two layers, not really greasy, but so that the number is not noticeable and then cover it calmly with yellow. This almost guarantees that the number will not show through the paint.
What to do when painting a picture by numbers?
You can watch TV series, cartoon series, listen to audiobooks, watch YouTube videos in the background. But, in fact, it is better to put something that sounds without your participation. Because when you distract yourself to change something, you spend a lot of time on it, during which you could paint a fairly large area of the picture, if you put all this time together.
How do you paint the outline under the light colors if it shows through?
Either you apply several layers, or you paint first with white and then with the desired color. The only thing is, of course, the variant with the white color is very long.
If you don't wet your brush often, does that mean you can paint without water?
No, it doesn't mean you don't need water. Water is necessary, but not in the same quantity as when painting with watercolors. It is used to rinse the paint from the brush and a little is enough to make the acrylic a little less dense. But this applies more to dark colors than to light ones.
What is the leaflet with the reduced copy of the painting in the kit?
This piece of paper is just for orientation, so you can see where the number is. If you suddenly painted something on the canvas or you can't see it. Although seeing on a small sheet of paper is a challenge. It's just a sheet of paper, no need to paint it, just a personal orientation on the canvas.
I'm afraid to apply a lot of paint because it might not be enough.
Well, everything is very simple here: if at the beginning you can't put any more paint, when you have finished the painting, or when the main elements you have colored, you can add your shades somewhere, put the remaining paint on the areas where where the numbers are more clearly visible.
How many hours will it take to paint such a picture?
This is a completely unpredictable moment, because there are paintings that take a lot of time, because they are very complex in the number of small details, and there are paintings that are very simple, have many large pieces, or the plot will capture you so much that you you are sitting and painting for two evenings.
If paints have an unpleasant odor, can they be harmful to your health?
A typical paint-by-numbers set doesn't feature smelly paints, it shouldn't be.
How can I paint delicate but large parts, such as tree branches?
Paint only with a thin brush. It is a complicated process that requires concentration and careful movements.
Before the paint had time to dry, my sister spilled a glass of water on the canvas, leaving streaks. What to do?
If the canvas has been flooded with water, it is better to take a soft napkin, put it on the wet area, the napkin immediately absorbs the water and you carefully pick it up. That is, under no circumstances, you don't need to rub anything, a little dabbing and off you go. This way the paint will not spread and the water will be removed, the canvas will dry a little and it can be painted. If suddenly you have already done something wrong and left marks, acrylic is a material that can cover the marks. Then continue painting over the surface as you did. The new brushstrokes will definitely cover the marks you left.
Which framework to choose and what to base it on?
The painting must, obviously, not be chosen from the beginning - to whoever will then give it as a gift. First of all, he should be happy to paint what he paints. It's as if you were getting to know a piece of the world, with characters to draw. And you should really be happy to create what was conceived by the author of the original picture, respectively, when choosing a picture, focus on your interests, on your hobbies, on those images that are pleasant primarily to you, because it is you who spend hours of your life there. Painting pictures with numbers is a thrill, it's a pleasure, it's a meditation, it's the moment when you take your soul away.
